ATTENTION ALL APPLICANTS! The Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Alaska Vocational Technical Center, is recruiting for an AVTEC Instructor: Maritime/Department Head located in Seward! What you will be doing: Alaska Vocational Technical Center (AVTEC), a division of the Department of Labor and Workforce Development, is recruiting for an AVTEC Instructor who will serve as an instructional subject matter expert, and the leader of the Alaska Maritime Training Center (AMTC). Responsibilities include oversight of planning, development, and delivery of training programs, and optimizing use of assessment and training technologies such as the fire trainer and full mission bridge simulator. Provides direct supervision of eight full-time Instructors, one full-time support staff member, several adjunct instructors, as well as a maritime advisory board, grant initiatives and special projects, and serves on the AVTEC leadership team. Requires outreach to various primary, secondary, and post-secondary educational institutions, as well as Alaskan and national maritime industry representatives to expand AVTEC's presence in the industry, and recruit new students. Requires development and management of course schedules, and oversite to ensure efficient staffing and use of training resources and instructional technologies. Requires management of contract training arrangements, ensuring the contract training is cohesive with scheduled programs, and facilitating use of classroom/conference room space, catering accommodations, etc.Four years of journey-level trade experience in the applicable field. OR SUBSTITUTION: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college in the applicable field; AND Two years of journey-level trade experience in the applicable field; AND Two years professional experience developing, coordinating, and presenting adult training or vocational education programs. OR SUBSTITUTION: An industry recognized professional certification in the applicable field; AND Two years of journey-level trade experience in the applicable field; AND Two years professional experience developing, coordinating, and presenting adult training or vocational education programs. Special Note: Positions in the AVTEC Instructor job class require expertise in a particular vocational field such as the culinary arts, business or office technology, applied technology, information technology, maritime operations or safety, medical services, construction, or the trades. The required training or experience for each position is unique to the assigned field of instruction.
