As part of Juul Labs Regulatory Affairs organization, Scientific Engagement drives U.S. regulatory and policy strategy through engagement with public health and policy stakeholders. Key initiatives include: coordination of the Company's scientific and policy conference participation; supporting internal stakeholders (Comms, Legal, Government Affairs) in developing and communicating the Company's scientific and product innovation narrative; direct meetings with external stakeholders; and collaboration with Scientific Affairs to track and maintain research on key issues and policies and disseminate to internal stakeholders.
The Manager of Scientific Engagement would lead and support these initiatives, primarily focused on issues advocacy relating to U.S. regulatory strategy. This role would report into the VP, Scientific Engagement on the Regulatory Affairs team.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support direct and indirect engagement, including meetings and related collateral, with key stakeholders on regulatory science and policy issues;
Support external affairs objectives related to U.S. regulatory issues and policies;
Provide oversight in the tactical execution and project management for publication and conference projects (including abstracts, posters/presentations, and peer-reviewed manuscripts) to ensure internal alignment and adherence to timelines and processes.
Collaborate with internal Regulatory Science team members to facilitate the development of abstracts, posters, presentations, original manuscripts, and review papers
Work with Scientific Affairs to monitor and analyze scientific literature to inform internal and external stakeholders of key developments
Ability to influence cross-functional workstreams involving Comms, Legal, Government Affairs, Product, and other teams to ensure accurate, consistent messaging and alignment on key priorities
PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
5-10 years of experience in external affairs (e.g. government affairs, science/corporate communications, stakeholder engagement)
Bachelor's degree or equivalent. Experience and/or a masters in public health (or related field) is a plus.
Excellent written and oral communication, analytical thinking, and advocacy skills - the ability to "read carefully, think critically, and write effectively" to bring together complex public-health and policy concepts for a wide range of audiences, including regulators, policymakers, and technical and non-technical parties.
Established organizational and time-management skills, project-management capabilities, effectively balancing multiple, high-impact priorities.
Self-motivated with ability to demonstrate independent decision-making
Ability to work well under pressure.
Experience in tobacco and nicotine policy and regulation is a strong plus.
A persuasive writing sample is required.
