POSITION OVERVIEW PN#25201 CHIEF PHYSICIAN, MD - ASSISTANT PUBLIC HEALTH AUTHORITY GENERALSUMMARY: The assistant public health authority (APHA) serves as back up to the public health authority (PHA) participating in community health activities and projects as assigned. Activities may include disease control, disease prevention and public health emergency involvement. Serving as a medical liaison for other agencies and medical facilities is also a part of the APHAs responsibilities. The APHA also works closely with the clinical team acting as a consultant, quality assurance team member, and author and reviewer of policy. RESPONSIBILITES: * Supervises, evaluates and instructs clinic physicians and nurse practitioners. * Develops, reviews and/or updates standing orders, medical protocols and division policies and procedures as required. * Plans, designs and implements medical quality improvement activities. * Participates in community public health activities and projects. * Performs duties as delegated by the Public Health Authority which are necessary to implement and enforce a law to protect the public health. * Provides medical consultation for Division Program Managers and Administration Managers and directs patient care. * Serves as medical liaison for other agencies or medical facilities. * Plans and conducts continuing medical education; conducts regular administrative meetings for problem resolution WORKING CONDITIONS There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature, such as cuts, bruises and minor burns. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Requires a Medical Doctor's Degree from an American Medical Association accredited medical school. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Six (6) years of experience as a practicing physician in the state of Texas are required. LICENSE REQUIREMENTS Must be licensed to practice as a Medical Doctor in the state of Texas. PREFERENCES Preference will be granted to applicants with six years or more of public health experience and/or six years or more experience withdiagnosis and treatment of communicable diseases ie STI, TB Board Certification . Preference will also be granted to applicants that possess experience in the following areas: * Administrative Leadership * As a Public Health Authority Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6. Pay Grade 35 SALARY INFORMATION: GENERAL FUND POSITION Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
