Louisiana State University Shreveport is seeking a Laboratory Safety Officer (LSO) to advise faculty and staff on all aspects of lab operations including training, teaching laboratory preparation, compliance, safety, incident response, and equipment maintenance.
This is a 12-month staff position. The LSO is housed in the Science Building and reports to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Qualifications:
Required :
Bachelor's degree required, preferably in chemistry, biochemistry, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, one of the life sciences, or related discipline.
Preferred:

Minimum of 1 year of experience in a laboratory environment. Experience in Chemical Hygiene/lab safety strongly preferred.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Excellent time management and organizational skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Familiarity with standard laboratory procedures and operations in order to converse with researchers and provide relevant guidance.
Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office and standard office software.
Examples of Work:

* Maintain the hazardous material inventory per the LSUS Lab Safety Manual.
* Assist/advise departments on lab operations per the Lab Safety Manual.
* Maintain/update the Lab Safety Manual to address all federal, state, and LSU regulations and requirements.
* Work closely with the Director of Facilities Services and Campus Safety Officer on lab operations including handling waste, equipment calibration, and training.
* Conduct audits and propose corrective actions to Chairs and the Dean.
* Prepare and conduct lab safety training. Monitor compliance with training requirements.
* Manage BIOS and CHEM/PHYS stockrooms, coordinate the ordering of supplies and materials.
* Coordinate the maintenance and repair of departmental instrumentation including the NMR, GC mass spectrometry, spectrophotometers, chromatography, cell culture, water purification, and solvent distillation systems etc.
* Assist faculty with cryogenic liquids, and coordination with equipment repair companies, when needed.
