The Immersive Media Design Program and the Computer Science Department at the University of Maryland invites applications for a lecturer or senior lecturer position starting Fall 2021. Immersive Media Design (IMD) is a new undergraduate major created as a collaboration between the Studio Art and Computer Science departments, and is designed to meet the interest of undergraduate students in the next generation of digital media that gets beyond the computer monitor to immerse the participant in VR, AR, XR, projective environments, interactive installations, and similar technologies. Through the collaboration the departments will support students interested in artistic and technical development. More information is available at http://imd.umd.edu. This position is for a lecturer in the Computer Science department who may teach both computer science and immersive media courses, and is interested in building the new program and its curriculum. Candidates are expected to be able to teach introductory computer science courses in programming, discrete mathematics, web development, and similar, as well as courses in creative coding and interactive 3D environments. Responsibilities: During each fall and spring semester, we anticipate that the lecturer will teach at most three sections in computer science or immersive media. The lecturer may also decide to participate in lower level course curriculum development or become involved in the department's vibrant research community via research grants and advising. Opportunities for summer and winter teaching for additional pay will also be available.
