Job Description
The laboratory of Dr. Brandon Henderson in the Department of Biomedical Sciences in the Joan C Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University is currently seeking a Postdoctoral researcher with a patch-clamp electrophysiology and neurobiology background, who will conduct and guide experiments defined in a funded NIH grant.
The experiments will be aimed at investigating how drugs of abuse alter midbrain neurons. Currently, the Henderson laboratory is focused on studying how these neurons are altered by nicotine and tobacco
flavorants. The principal scientific investigations include the monitoring of action potentials, whole-cell currents, and neural excitability in midbrain neurons.Please, refer to the Henderson lab website (www.hendersonlab.org) for additional information and references to relevant publications.
Required Qualifications
PhD in related field of Pharmacology, neuroscience, biology or biomedical sciences.
A suitable candidate must be well-versed in electrophysiology, have extensive hands-on experience with patch clamp methods and a background in neurobiology/neuroscience. Experience with mouse or rat brain slice preparations is necessary. Experience in cell preparations and staining techniques, as well as in techniques to assess cell status and viability will be beneficial. The candidate must be able to fluently communicate in English (oral and written).
Must be able to perform all essential job duties as outlined in the job description.
