ROLE SUMMARY
The candidate will be an essential member of the Gene Therapy Translational Sciences group, a part of Pfizer's Rare Disease Research Unit (RDRU) located in Cambridge, MA. The candidate will perform in vivo animal studies and cell based experiments to evaluate, characterize and validate AAV gene therapy products. The candidate is expected to perform a variety of small animal model and molecular/cell biology techniques - including in vivo sample administration, collection, cloning, qPCR, protein blots and cell culture assays to support development of in vivo and in vitro disease models. The applicant will function as a member of project teams and will work under the close supervision of a more senior scientist while assisting them meet project goals. The candidate is expected to maintain records and present their work at internal and external meetings.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- The candidate will perform animal and cell based experiments using gene therapy products
- This associate scientist will perform hands-on animal surgical procedures as well as maintain healthy and diseased cell lines to support RDRU multidisciplinary project teams.
- The applicant will perform a variety of in vivo small animal model procedures, run ddPCR, rtPCR, ELISA, MSD assay, Flow Cytometry, Western blot analysis, High Content Images and confocal microscopy assays in support of various programs.
- This position involves extensive handling of small animals and conducting experiments, analyzing data using Excel and GraphPad Prism, troubleshooting experiments, and presenting results at lab meetings.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in the Life Sciences field
- 1-3 years of academic or industry experience
- Experience with small rodents ( in vivo mouse work, handling, dosing, blood/tissue collection, or performing procedures and experiments)
- Highly collaborative with a strong desire to make contributions and interact with internal and external teams.
- Strong written/verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with teams.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with in vivo characterization of gene therapy products.
- Scientific background in performing molecular biology and cell biology.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to wear PPE (mask/lab coat/glasses/etc).
NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL, OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
- May require occasional overtime and/or weekend work.
