Job context and Apprenticeship Summary

The Space Management Apprentice will develop professionally to work within the BIM and Digital Assets team managing a broad range of space data related queries and monitor and analyse space data to support space strategy and improve space utilisation.

The Space Management Apprentice will support the Space Management Strategy, and the continuing development of the Estates Space database for accurate Space related analysis and reporting.

The BIM and Digital Assets team are responsible for the delivery and management of a number of functions. The team manages the Estates Departments'
  • Space Management, development of Space Strategy, space data analysis and space utilisation across the University.
  • BIM - Building Information Modelling processes and models, both through Capital Delivery and maintenance of the models;
  • Document and Information Management processes, for delivery on Capital projects;
  • Innovation Management, with particular focus on systems and increasing the efficiency of the Estates department and related University functions and;

The apprentice will contribute with the wider team to support the delivery of the Estate Strategy through developing the space database and analytics. Working under the direction of the Senior Space Manager, the apprentice will assist in ensuring University space data is accurate and BIM models are fit for purpose. The apprentice will learn to develop space planning materials through BIM to assist with the delivery of Space Management changes.

The apprentice will assist with developing new ways of working, informing strategy through data analysis and champion best practice through technology and systems innovation. The apprentice will also assist the team with on-site visits, surveys, other data collection methods and will be responsible for creating drawn and management information and reports from University data using a range of software and systems. The apprentice will need to have the ability to work with accuracy and attention to detail, possess customer service skills, be proactive in finding solutions to problems and contribute to the general development of the Space Management function and Estates Office, as required.

Main Duties you will learn

Space Management (Apprentice)
  • Support the development and implementation of strategies and plans to optimise the use of University space.
  • Assist BIM Technicians with maintaining the accuracy and coverage of the University's space records and BIM Models.
  • Designing layouts using space planning BIM methods.
  • Use Space Management systems to monitor and report on the efficiency of the estate against agreed Estates' objectives and targets.
  • Undertake a variety of administration duties to support the team in the area of Space and data analysis.
  • Identify, collect and migrate space data to/from a range of internal and external systems
  • Manipulate and link different data sets to inform space management activities and benchmarking
  • Interpret and apply the Estates data and information security standards, policies and procedures to data management activities
  • Perform space database queries across multiple tables to extract data for analysis
  • Perform routine statistical analyses for estates reporting and ad-hoc queries for space management activities
  • Use a range of analytical techniques such as data mining, time series forecasting and modelling techniques to identify and predict trends and patterns in space data
  • Assist production of performance dashboards and reports
  • Assist with data quality checking and cleansing
  • Apply the tools and techniques for data analysis, data visualisation and presentation

  • To carry out such other duties as required by your line manager or the Estates Directorate.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience
  • GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above AND,
  • 2x A Levels (1 including Maths, Economics or ICT) OR,
  • An International Baccalaureate at Level 3 in ICT OR,
  • A Level 3 apprenticeship in a similar subject OR,
  • A BTEC Extended Diploma in IT (180 credits) OR,
