Postdoctoral Fellow - Industrial and Management Systems, Statler College

The Industrial and Management Systems Engineering Department in the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in the general area of Supply Chain, Supply Chain Optimization, and Matching Markets. Knowledge, experience, and interest in composites manufacturing, machine learning and AI, circular economy, cascade use is a plus. This position supports research initiatives related to the design and analysis of decentralized supply networks, optimization algorithms, and supply and demand matching. The period of this appointment is for 12 months with the expectation to extend for an additional 12 months contingent on a positive performance review and the successful execution of the contract with the funding agency. This position is anticipated to start August 15, 2021.

Applicants must have a PhD in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Computer Science or related fields, with a background in developing and implementing complex supply chain models including geographic (location-based) optimization as well as proficiency in machine learning and data-driven optimization supported by a proven track-record of research publications in high-impact scientific journals. All applicants must be capable of completing the assigned tasks within the United States. Foreign National candidates, if selected, will require approval from the Department of Energy prior to beginning work. Information required for the review includes biographical information about the foreign national, documentation of immigrant or nonimmigrant status, and information about the research assignment. The WVU Export Control Office will aid in complying with this requirement.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to: research on supply network design and optimization, cascade use modeling in close collaboration with our partners from industry and industry associations; supporting project management of a funded grant; guiding graduate and/or undergraduate students; collaboration with researchers from national labs, academia, and industry on research and writing of proposals to seek funding; attending conferences and reading of scientific literature to keep abreast of technological advances and latest research with motivation to include new findings in research.

West Virginia University is the State's comprehensive Land Grant University with an enrollment of about 29,000 students and a R1 Carnegie Classification. Morgantown and its vicinity have a diverse population of about 62,000 residents and are ranked highly among the most livable small cities in the country. The community lies within a high technology corridor that also includes several federal research facilities, as well as industries active in shale gas operations.
