Holy Names University (HNU) is seeking candidates for a full-time Medical Surgery Faculty position in the Department of Nursing. Faculty schedules vary by semester. Candidate may be required to teach theory and clinical rotations, evenings, weekends, summer, online, hybrid, and/or distance education courses.

Essential Functions of Positions:

I. TEACHING AND LEARNING
  • Responsible for creating environments that facilitate student learning and the attainment of expected outcomes at the course and program levels.
  • Has ownership for the development, implementation, evaluation of the curricula within the School of Nursing, which, are designed to prepare graduates to provide nursing care in a dynamic health care environment.

II. SERVICE
  • Required to provide service on School of Nursing Committees, University Committees and other committees and task forces, as needed.
  • Professional service implies the use of academic and professional expertise to serve the University, the nursing profession, and the community.
  • Service consists of meaningful activities that promote the image, mission and strategic priorities of the University, the well-being of relevant individual or groups among the community of interest or the professional growth of faculty.

III. SCHOLARSHIP AND CREATIVE ACTIVITY
  • Faculty members are required to engage in scholarship that reflects activities resulting in the productions, reorganization/refinement, dissemination or creation of works that advance knowledge in ones field.

Additional duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
  • Attend and participate in all faculty, committee, and program/College meetings.
  • Maintain professional competence and participate in professional development activities.
  • Maintain a professional working relationship with students, fellow faculty members,
    administration, staff, and clinical personnel.

Qualifications and Experience:
  • Masters (or higher) degree in Nursing required.
  • Current un-incumbered nursing license (RN) in the state of California.
  • BLS and ACLS.
  • Recent (within 5 years) practice in area of specialty.
  • Meet the BRN requirements to be approved for teaching both Medical Surgical and Geriatrics nursing.
  • Preferred Critical Care experience.
  • Willing to remediate in a 3rd area of teaching.
