The Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design (ANRD) at West Virginia University is seeking applications for a Research Technician (Research Assistant). The Research Technician will manage lab safety and chemical hygiene regulations and procedures in the joint Plant Sciences and Genetics facilities, operate chromatography equipment in the Analytical Biochemistry Core Lab, and provide technical support to genetics, plant and crop sciences, and horticulture research projects in the Division of Plant and Soil Sciences at West Virginia University.

In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
  • Perform the responsibilities of the Chemical Hygiene and Safety Officer (CHO) for the Plant Sciences and Genetics Laboratories, implement Board of Risk and Insurance Management (BRIM) policies, act as lab safety liaison With the College's CHO; and maintain shared equipment.
  • Maintain and operate chromatography equipment and other shared equipment in the Analytical Biochemistry Core Lab, manage and maintain the clean room and tissue culture space, laminar flow hoods, autoclaves, coolers, plant tissue grinders, real-time PCR system and other shared equipment; oversee equipment maintenance, such as water purification systems and coolers.
  • Conduct laboratory experiments in the Plant Science and Genetics programs, such as maintain microorganism stock cultures and plant collections; data collection, management and analysis; supervise students in laboratories and instruct new students on the operation of lab equipment; and present scientific data.
  • Master's in Plant Science, Horticulture, Genetics, Biochemistry or related fields, or equivalent experience
