Site Name: UK - Hertfordshire - Stevenage, UK - London - Brentford, USA - Pennsylvania - King of Prussia, USA - Pennsylvania - Upper Providence, USA - Pennsylvania - Philadelphia Posted Date: Jul 12 2021 Job purpose: As Senior Director and Head of Oncology Epidemiology you will manage the strategic input and oversight of the Oncology Epidemiology program including the marketed portfolio as well as a robust R&D pipeline covering immuno-oncology, epigenetics, cell and gene therapy and synthetic lethality mechanisms. In this role you will be accountable for developing and executing the epidemiology evidence plans for all deliverables. Posting end-date: Sunday July 25th, 2021 Responsibilities for this role include: Liaise with relevant TA stakeholders (e.g. Value Evidence & Outcomes colleagues, Development, Clinical, Medical and Safety and Regulatory counterparts etc.) to understand and influence the overarching asset strategy and disease/target/project priorities; clarify the key knowledge gaps and translate gaps into epidemiology program strategy ; lead scientific design of studies and effectively communicate and advocate for the epidemiology program strategy for the therapy area and key assets. Manage a group of about 10 epidemiologists to develop the epidemiology support for the therapy area and key assets Lead resourcing strategy; provide guidance and support to each team member on their development of the specific disease & project support strategy, work priorities, and delivery; conduct scientific review and governance of team members' work output; discuss and agree performance and development objectives. Provide advice and guidance for best practice in epidemiology evidence generation strategies and methodologies, including enabling internal and external scientific advice. Drive innovation within the oncology epidemiology team and more widely across the epidemiology group, informing ideas and options through effective engagement with external experts, methodology and policy forums, and by leveraging knowledge of the external environment to enable more efficient epidemiology evidence development differentiation of GSK oncology medicines. Represent the function externally in regulatory meetings, public-private partnerships and at scientific societies, as required. Serve on Epidemiology and Patient-Centered Outcomes Leadership Team and lead departmental and divisional initiatives to continuously improve operations and advance innovative science and analytics Basic Qualifications: We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: Doctorate in epidemiology 10+ years practical experience conducting pharmacoepidemiologic research Line management experience, specifically coaching and developing junior members of the group. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently to develop credibility with colleagues within and outside Epidemiology. Demonstrated leadership and strategic excellence. Ability to resolve problems through resourceful use of information and contacts. Ability to work well within a business-driven environment, establish cross-functional relationships, balance priorities and handle multiple tasks through good planning, project administration, and organization skills Evidence of leading partnerships with R&D functions Good understanding of regulations relevant to application of epidemiology to clinical development and safety Experience in leadership roles for scientific organizations, cross-industry activities and/or public-private partnerships Preferred Qualifications: If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus: Oncology experience (industry or academic) Excellent communication skills to interact effectively in multi-disciplinary matrix teams and to influence global stakeholders and key opinion leaders. Solid track record of epidemiologic and quantitative skills Demonstrated managerial, and scientific problem-solving abilities.
