As a Scientist in the Structural Biology Lab in the Preclinical Department of GSK Vaccines (Rockville, Maryland), you will be responsible for 3D structural characterization and analysis of candidate vaccine antigens and antibodies. This group plays an essential role in supporting preclinical, development and life-cycle management projects at GSK Vaccines. We are looking for a highly motivated scientist, with a proven track record in the most relevant areas of x-ray crystallography, high throughput screening, protein expression, protein biochemistry, and protein engineering, in order to provide expertise in vaccine development for GSK projects. As a Scientist, you will be contributing to various studies and be responsible for delivering pre-clinical and clinical data analysis. Basic Qualifications: We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: Degree in structural biology, biochemistry, biotechnology or related field. PhD with 0-2+ years of experience, MS with 5+ years of experience, or BS degree with 10+ years of experience. Experience in protein x-ray crystallography, including high throughput crystal screening and crystal optimization. Proficient with crystallography software for data processing and visualization (HKL, Phenix, XDS, Coot, Pymol, Chimera, CCP4). Experience with diverse protein purification methods (e.g. affinity column purification and size exclusion chromatography) and equipment (e.g. AKTA avant systems). Experience with bioanalytical and biophysical assays (e.g. SDS-PAGE, Western blot, SPR, DSF, DLS). Preferred Qualifications: If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus: PhD degree with focus on x-ray structural analysis of antigen-antibody complexes. Familiar with complimentary techniques such as negative stain and cryo-electron microscopy. Experience with protein engineering and design software (e.g. Rosetta, MOE). Experience with purification and characterization of RNA. Experience in high throughput protein purification from mammalian cells. Be a self-starter able to handle multiple projects concurrently. Good knowledge and understanding of GSK Vaccines strategy and objectives, regulatory, requirements, as well as competition intelligence and intellectual property aspects. Ability to integrate this knowledge in decisions and recommendations. Excellent communication skills, ability to effectively collaborate within multiple project workstreams. Strong track-record of scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals, with at least 1 first author research manuscript. Fluency in English, spoken and written. Why GSK?
