Reports To: Director of Psychological Services Center and Dean of Students

Department: CIIS Wellness Center

Start date: August 4, 2021 (one year fixed term with possibility of renewal)

Salary: $18,000/Year

SUMMARY & RESPONSIBILITIES

CIIS strives to provide culturally informed holistically based services to students, faculty, staff, and the Bay Area community. This goal will be supported by the CAPIC Predoctoral Internship and Postdoctoral Fellowship in clinical/counseling psychology focused on direct service delivery to students, outreach and consultation to campus community, and on training of graduate students in clinical psychology.

We are currently searching for 2 Postdoctoral Fellows to join us for the upcoming training year, starting August 4, 2021 and ending July 29, 2022. The Postdoctoral Fellowship requires a commitment of 19 hours per week; Fellows will accumulate approximately 850 hours towards the required 1500 supervised postdoctoral hours in California. Postdoctoral Fellows will receive time off, which will primarily follow the school holiday schedule (2 weeks for the Winter break, 1 week for Spring break, and 1 week of their choosing, which would include time off/sick time).

This Fellowship will enable Postdoctoral Fellows to practice from a relational psychodynamic theoretical framework. Fellows will also learn how to provide brief psychodynamic psychotherapy. Postdoctoral Fellows will join our Pre-doctoral intern for two weekly didactic seminars, case conference, and group supervision. Training topics include: Clinical Seminar, Theory and Technique, Jungian Psychoanalysis, Liberation Psychology, Couples Therapy, Group Therapy, Multiculturalism and Diversity, Professional Development, Outreach and Consultation, and Supervision of Supervision. Multicultural training is emphasized throughout the didactic and supervisory experiences.

Postdoctoral Fellows will report directly to the Director of Psychological Services Center and the Dean of Students. Postdoctoral Fellows will also receive group supervision by the Student Wellness Development Committee, an interdepartmental taskforce created to deepen and expand institutional goals in this area, on a monthly basis.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide services to CIIS students including brief strength-based individual (8-session model) and group counseling (including one support group per semester), assessment, wellness workshops, and referrals to various CIIS and community resources (all counseling services will be conducted remotely through the Fall and a percentage of counseling services may remain remote in the Spring and Summer);
  • Provide secondary supervision to 2 Psychological Services Center Practicum Trainees;
  • If time allows, participate in needs assessment, development, and provision of psycho educational outreach programming to the campus community.

Job Requirements:
  • PsyD or PhD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an accredited institution required. The incumbent must successfully complete all requirements for the doctorate degree (e.g., pre-doctoral internship and/or oral dissertation defense) within a month of the employment start date;
  • Relational psychodynamic theoretical orientation;
  • Experience utilizing trauma-informed brief models of care;
  • Clinical training/experience in at least two of the following areas: anxiety disorders, group counseling, multicultural counseling, substance abuse and psychological assessment of adults;
  • Knowledge of clinical documentation (e.g., progress notes, assessments, and treatment plans);
  • Ability to work well within a multicultural, diverse community, including experience working with multicultural communities (a spectrum of race, gender, ability, class, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, and age). Our diverse and international student community requires that all members of the counseling services team are culturally informed and embrace the intersectionality of each student;
  • Proficiency in oral and written communication skills, public speaking and leading group discussions;
  • Ability to work well both individually and as a part of a team in a collegial, respectful, and professional manner. This includes sensitivity to confidentiality concerns, professional boundaries, multiple relationships, and ability to interact effectively with diverse constituencies.

Preferred experience and skills include:
  • Prior college or university counseling center experience;
  • Knowledge of ADA issues in higher education.
