The role

The Department of Theatre is seeking to appoint a Teaching-focused Lecturer in Theatre on a 0.5 FTE, three-year contract to commence in September 2021. This post is to cover the secondment of another member of the department. The Department has an excellent reputation, is thriving, fast-growing, highly creative and has a very strong teaching and research ethos. Staff in the Department have expertise in an array of genres, histories, and practices, including theatre history, historic and contemporary performance practices, audience studies, performance studies, dramaturgy and adaptation.

What will you be doing?

You will contribute to and develop the Department's teaching at all levels, contributing to courses such as: Introduction to Performance Practices, Introduction to Performance Studies, Politics of Performance, Staging the Text, Popular Performance, Applied Theatre, and Site-Specific Theatre. You will be expected to teach an average of 8-10 hours/week each teaching block. You will be expected to provide academic support and guidance to students and to contribute to the administrative functioning of the department as appropriate, including contributing to recruitment and outreach activities. You will also be given time for professional development and scholarship.

You should apply if

You have a PhD in Theatre or a related field and have, or are developing, experience in teaching in the HE sector. You are an excellent, collaborative team player and also have the ability to work independently. You are able to work across our curriculum, contributing to both lecture/seminar and practice-based courses. You are passionate about teaching and have, or are willing to work towards, an HEA qualification.
