The role

The School of Geographical Sciences at the University of Bristol is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Health Geographies. You will help build the School's capacity for research on health and wellbeing and will join one of our three Human Geography Research Groups: Quantitative Spatial Science, Political Economy or Historical and Cultural Geography. Our research encompasses a wide range of subfields in Geography and we are increasingly interested in interdisciplinary approaches that can accommodate humanistic, social science and scientific approaches to global problems. Health research in Human Geography is also supported by the University's interdisciplinary research institutes. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the work of these institutes, including the Elizabeth Blackwell Institute for Health Research, the Cabot Institute for the Environment and the Brigstow Institute dedicated to supporting experimental and collaborative research on new ways of living well.

The School of Geographical Sciences is committed to efforts to decolonise our curriculum and to transform our research and teaching as part of these efforts. You will be joining the School at an important time in our history and we especially welcome applicants interested in supporting this work.

What will you be doing?

The role of Lecturer in Health Geographies is a Pathway 1 position with expectations that you will develop your research including actively seeking opportunities to fund your research and publish your research findings, contribute to teaching in both our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes as well as doctoral supervision, and support the activities of the School in an administrative role.

You should apply if

You have completed your PhD or be near completion and you have demonstrated excellence in scholarship, research, teaching, and administration appropriate to your career stage.

We welcome applications from all members of our community and are particularly encouraging those from diverse groups, such as members of the LGBT+ and BAME communities, to join us.
