PURPOSE
The Columbia Public School District is accepting applications for School Nurse Substitutes. Currently, specific needs are unknown, but we are actively interviewing candidates. The School Nurse Substitute strengthens and facilitates the educational process by modifying or reducing health-related barriers to learning of individual students and by promoting an optimal level of wellness for students and staff.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Assumes responsibility for appropriate assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation, management, and/or referral activities.
Serves as the direct link between physicians, families, and community agencies to assure access and continuity of health care of students.
Provides relevant instruction, counseling, and guidance to students, parents, staff, and others concerning health-related issues.
Upholds professional standards, the state Nurse Practice Act, and other state and local statutes and regulations applicable to school nursing practice, and adheres to district policies and administrative guidelines.
Perform other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public School District.

Reports To: Coordinator of Nurses and Building Administrator
Supervises: N/A
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum: Missouri registered professional nurse license; Current certification in CPR/AED; Minimum two years' experience required
Preferred: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing, BSN degree is preferred

Other Skills and Abilities: Establish and maintain effective relationships with students and colleagues; Perform multiple tasks simultaneously; Safeguard medications and confidential medical information; Identify needs and abilities of individual children and adapt methods accordingly. These are essential functions of the job.
Technology: Perform basic computer functions such as word processing and internet use. These are essential functions of the job.
Physical Demands: Frequently stand, stoop, bend and kneel; Read handwritten or printed material; Frequently lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds; Grasp, hold, and demonstrate finger dexterity; Reach and raise arms above shoulders and head; Must have both close and distance vision. These are essential functions of the job.
Attendance: Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
Conditions and Environment: The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active. These are essential functions of the job.
