LabCorp is seeking an Associate Director, Microbiology and Molecular Testing to join our team in San Diego, CA! As you may know, LabCorp was the first national laboratory to launch molecular testing for the virus that causes COVID-19 and we have performed over 18 million PCR tests to date.

Job Duties / Responsibilities

Oversee the operational activities of microbiology and molecular testing; both technical and non-technical
Effectively manage change, facilitate innovation and foster teambuilding to provide the highest quality and most cost effective laboratory product possible.
Ensure CORE laboratory provides market leading service levels, meeting the needs of our clients and corporate service metrics established for TAT
Resolves client inquiries and operational issues in a timely manner by consulting with Medical Director, QA, other laboratory managers, discipline directors, laboratory directors or corporate operation
Ensures laboratory is compliant with corporate, state and federal regulatory requirements (CAP, CLIA, State, I.S.O.15189, etc) related to personnel safety and quality of laboratory testing as well as professional conduct in assigned areas
Assist with developing and implementing of laboratory procedures as well as installation of equipment and methods according to scheduled timelines
Oversee the staffing of the department and monitor the scheduling of work to ensure adequate coverage, proper use of overtime and the handling of specific projects
Ensures effective communication with Clients, Sales, Corporate Operations, Management as well as direct reports and all departmental staff
Investigate deviations from established procedures to ensure effective corrective action

Requirements

Bachelors degree in Medical Technology or a relevant concentration
ASCP Certification and CA CLS Generalist license required
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience; 3+ years experience as a medical technologist
Must meet CLIA requirements
Prior leadership experience managing several direct reports
Experience in a high volume clinical laboratory environment
Strong working knowledge of quality assurance practices and procedures
Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
Ability to problem solve and provide solutions under minimal supervision
Proven success in training and developing both technical and non-technical employees
Excellent computer skills; experience with an LIS
Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
Highly motivated and energetic with the ability to work effectively in a high test volume setting
Financial awareness and ability to manage budget
Inspire effective work team and ability to lead by example to encourage team to seek solutions
Excellent presentation skills
Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
