We are seeking a creative and energetic organic and bioorganic chemist to join our interdisciplinary research team that focuses on advancing our diagnostic product pipeline through developing new immunoassay technologies and discovery and development of new biomarkers. She/he will work in a multidisciplinary environment using chemical approaches to solve applied biological problems. The successful candidate will have a strong background in organic synthesis and bioconjugation chemistry to bridge the gap between organic chemistry and protein chemistry. He/she will be responsible for: the application of existing and novel synthetic methodologies and techniques to generate novel fluorophores, bioconjugates including protein-peptide, protein - protein, protein - small molecules.

Experience in organic chemistry and bioconjugation along with knowledge in protein chemistry, protein modification, peptide chemistry and standard protein characterization techniques is desired. Knowledge of spectroscopic analysis and interpretation (e.g. UV-VIS, Fluorescence, Mass spectrometry, NMR), along with purification techniques (HPLC) is required. She/he will quickly develop competencies in additional areas pertinent to diagnostics product development.

What will you do?

Initialize novel reagent development by utilizing established methods and procedures but also proposes new methods to increase effectiveness.

Work with limited supervision and receives basic project guidance.

Synthesis of novel small molecule targets such as fluorophores for bioconjugation.

Bioconjugate with focus on protein - small molecule / protein - peptide / protein - polymer / protein-small molecule / small molecule analyte - fluorophore conjugates.

Design and perform experiments in support of product development and product support.

Demonstrate basic project (tactical) planning and team supervision necessary to meet technical project timelines and routinely interfaces with various departments.

Perform complex data analysis, provide data summaries for discussion and make recommendations for next steps.

Present at internal data reviews, PRC, ISRB and PSRB venues and may present at external meetings.

Draft technical reports, data packages and associated electronic data for regulatory approvals and/or to support new product development.

Responsible for achieving project goals in a timely manner and with a high degree of quality

Work across the boundaries in multi-disciplinary projects

What do you need to succeed?

Ph.D. degree in chemistry with 3 years of post-degree experience in a research or industrial setting.

Masters degree with 8 years of relevant experience.

Bachelors degree with 10 years of relevant experience.

Excellent laboratory skills and technique in bioconjugation and organic synthesis.

Exhibits high-level or specialized understanding of biological and chemical principles and concepts as they relate to product development.

Work context involves variable situations requiring analytical and creative thinking.

Demonstrates basic problem-solving skills and applies a range of tools to critically evaluate, interpret and summarize data with the emerging ability to propose experimental next steps, often with guidance.

Emerging project planning and management skills to meet technical project deadlines (manages own team or project).

Developing technical decision-making skills and associated risk assessment.

Excellent verbal, technical writing and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to maintain accurate and clear documentation. Strong proficiency with MS Office.

Goal-oriented and highly motivated individual.
