Associate Dean
The [New Jersey Center for Science, Technology and Mathematics](https://www.kean.edu/academics/nj-center-science-technology-and-mathematics) offers a vibrant teaching and research environment dedicated to preparing a new generation of innovators for successful careers as professional scientists, physicians and educators. NJCSTM combines science and research in an innovative honors curriculum that strives to instill the critical thinking and problem-solving skills needed to succeed in today's scientifically and technologically advanced world. NJCSTM offers a five year combined bachelor's/master's scholarship program with two separate degree tracks: one in teacher Education and the other in Research. This is the only program in New Jersey that offers a core curriculum in the first two years that integrates science and mathematics courses linked to problem-solving and hands-on laboratory research to reinforce the classroom content. NJCSTM is housed in a striking, state-of-the-art 133,000 sq. ft. educational facility, with teaching and research laboratories, classrooms, a* *320 seat auditorium* *for workshops, lectures, conferences and other major events and a* *630 person atrium* *for meeting exhibits, break-out and poster sessions and social education events.
Reporting to the Dean, the Associate Dean assists in the general administration and management of NJCSTM and its various teaching, research and outreach missions as well as its special initiatives and the day-to-day operations of the Office of the Dean. The primary responsibility of the Associate Dean will be to promote and supervise applied research at NJCSTM. In the absence of the Dean, the Associate Dean assumes the role of chief academic officer for the NJCSTM.
As the chief research officer for the NJCSTM, the Associate Dean is responsible for the leadership, promotion, development and maintenance of faculty and student scholarly research programs, publications, community-based research collaborations and externally funded research and service activities across the NJCSTM and in collaboration with other Colleges and Schools within the University and the broader academic and industry communities; is responsible for improvements in the quality and impact of that research and the growth of local, national and international research collaborations; and does related work as required. This position requires travel and a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours.
This is not a remote position and requires physical presence on campus as determined by the Supervisor. It requires working on campus during the COVID-19 pandemic and interacting directly with students following all procedures and protocols set forth in the University's Restart Plan and any procedures/protocols created through additional correspondence. The employee must have the ability to wear a face covering for the duration of the workday during the COVID pandemic or as determined by university protocol.
Qualifications: Doctorate degree or a combination of education and experience in an academic or professional field related to the disciplines within the NJCSTM and a minimum of four years of progressive experience in a higher education environment or in a research environment involving collaborations and/or other activities with academic scientists and institutions, in either case, combining research, education and administrative experience or the equivalent as determined by the university.
