Associate Director, Clinical Research, Massey Cancer Center

Chief purpose of this position in support of above mission or goal
We are seeking candidates for the Associate Director for Clinical Research position who will provide leadership and direction, in collaboration with other members of the senior leadership team, for the Center in the furtherance of the mission to serve Virginia and the nation as an internationally recognized center of excellence in cancer research, prevention and control, patient care and education dedicated to improving the quality of human life by eliminating suffering and death through development and delivery of more effective means for the detection, treatment, prevention, control and ultimate cure of cancer.

Position Responsibilities
1. Teaching
Trains medical students, residents and fellows in the lab and while in the clinic. Expected to actively participate in providing clinical research opportunities to fellows. Mentors junior faculty.

2. Research
Develops clinical trial protocols and complies with all regulatory requirements. Writes and submits grant applications during the course of the academic year. Writes and publishes multiple manuscripts during the course of an academic year. Serves as a PI or Co-investigator on peer-reviewed grants and is responsible for complying with all institution and sponsors terms and conditions for grant funding. Ensures resources are utilized optimally for advancing the clinical research program. Participates in Massey Cancer Center Core Grant and CTSA applications and site visits as requested. Participates and engages other members of the Massey Cancer Center and the Department of Internal Medicine in collaborative research projects. Stays up to date on the clinical trial menu offered through the Massey Cancer Center and educates patients on their options for treatment on clinical trials.

3. Service
Serves on institutional committees, study sections, review groups, as a journal editor, or editorial boards.

4. Clinical
Attends on the inpatient wards and consult service, and/or sees patients in the outpatient clinic as appropriate based on sub-specialty training & interest.

5. Administrative and Leadership
Serves as the Associate Director for Clinical Research, Massey Cancer Center. Partners with the Director, other Associate Directors, and Program Leaders at Massey to enhance the cancer center's scientific goals and objectives. Provides oversight, development, implementation and evaluation of clinical research related programs and initiatives with Massey Cancer Center. Collaborates with the clinical investigators of Massey's research programs and cancer clinicians of VCU Health to devise a clinical trials menu that reflects both the strengths of Massey's science and the cancer burden of patients served in the region. Works closely with the Associate Director, Translational Research to create a seamless pathway for moving promising new scientific concepts into clinical trials. Recruits and mentors faculty members whose interests align with strategic research priorities, generating a well-funded, impactful research program.

Required Qualifications
• Medical Degree
• Extensive cancer clinical research experience
• Extramural funding track record
• Extensive publication record
• Expertise in early phase clinical trial development and management
• Experience in, and coordination of, investigator-initiated clinical research
• Qualified for academic appointment at the level of Associate or Full Professor in VCU School of Medicine
• Well developed scholarly/research portfolio with evidence of multi-disciplinary applications appropriate to complement and expand existing expertise in the department
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
