At Wiley, we welcome you for who you are, the background you bring, and embrace individuals who get excited about learning whether online or by book. Learning is for everyone, and so is our workplace. Bring your experiences, your perspectives, and your passion. It's in our differences that we empower the way the world learns.

As an Assistant Editor for Wiley's Materials Science & Physics journals, which include leading titles such as Advanced Materials, Advanced Science, Small, physica status solidi, Annalen der Physik, and the Macromolecular journals, you will gain on-the-job experience in many different aspects of publishing. You will be involved in activities including editorial decision-making (assessment of submitted manuscripts, management of the peer-review and revision process), strategic development of our scientific journals (acquisition of invited articles, special issue projects, etc.), and many online as well as in-person interactions with our authors and referees - researchers from all over the world.

As you will be working with many different colleagues on various products, the ability to collaborate in teams across multiple global office locations is of vital importance. You should also be keen to travel and represent the publisher and the journals within the research community at international conferences and during university/institute visits.

How you will make an impact:
  • As an Assistant Editor you will contribute to Wiley's leading brand in journals publishing from day one and handle manuscripts from the best scientists in the world
  • You can easily identify contributions that make a difference and find the best reviewers and audience for these.
  • You will engage with as many scientists as possible and deliver the most pleasant publishing experience for them
  • You will also act as an ambassador for Open Access publishing for a publisher with a strong impact and commitment to OA
  • You may be involved in product development and the conception, launch and road to success of new journals and other products

We are looking for people who:
  • Have a passion for science and its communication, and a keen eye for detail
  • Have a PhD degree in the natural sciences, preferably in materials science, physics, nanotechnology, chemistry, polymer science, life/health science, or a related discipline
  • Are dynamic team players with excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Have experience with the peer review process (e.g., as author, reviewer, or editor)

    Desirable:
  • Have an optics/photonics background and/or postdoc experience
  • Excellent command of the English language is required; previous publishing/scientific news writing experience, an interest in data analysis, and experience with a manuscript handling system would be advantageous.
