About the Job

Program Director for Medical Laboratory Sciences. The University of Minnesota Center for Allied Health Programs (CAHP) seeks an outstanding leader and scholar as program director and faculty for the Medical Laboratory Sciences program. The Program Director for Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS) is a full-time faculty member in the Center for Allied Health Programs (CAHP) with 60% time devoted to MLS Program Director responsibilities. This position is a twelve-month faculty appointment with annual review and renewal of the Program Director position. Qualified candidates should be eligible for a faculty appointment with rank and salary commensurate with experience. The qualified candidate will hold the Endowed Mildred King Rohwer Chair in Medical Technology.

The Director of the MLS program is expected to provide creative leadership in the promotion of excellence in MLS education and scholarship. The Program Director, who reports to the Director of the CAHP, is accountable for the quality of undergraduate and graduate MLS educational programs, providing inspiration, guidance, and support to faculty as they pursue scholarly work, embrace and support educational programming that supports diversity and inclusion, and design and implement curricula that meet the needs of dynamic educational and health care systems.

Job Duties:
Program Director Duties (60%)

Program Direction:
1. Lead the development, implementation, delivery, and evaluation of all curricula for the undergraduate and graduate programs and promote innovation in educational programs
2. Ensure the program meets NAACLS accreditation standards and requirements
3. Support professional development for faculty consistent with their faculty development plans
4. Provide leadership to establish policies, procedures, and initiatives that demonstrate a commitment to a diverse, inclusive, and collegial environment.
5. Provide stewardship for and manage the utilization of MLS personnel, budget, and resources
6. Manage Program resources in collaboration with the Center Director
7. In collaboration with student services, support the recruitment, advisement, admissions, and progression of MLS students
8. Coordinate Program communications and visibility with community partners such as the alumni association, clinical affiliates and industry partners; as well as academic partners within the University of Minnesota, region, and national level.
9. Coordinate development and implementation of professional continuing education programs
10. Enhance the visibility and promote the MLS program at state, regional, national, and international professional meetings and represent the Program regarding regional workforce needs

Faculty Responsibilities (40%):
1. Teaching -
a. Teach in assigned core content areas within the curriculum including assigned research advisees
2. Scholarship/Creative Activity
a. Create and maintain active scholarship activities in an area of professional expertise
3. Service/Governance
a. Actively engage in professional organizations
b. Engage in University and CAHP governance as appropriate
