POSITION SUMMARY: Provide student instruction from a Christian worldview for undergraduate courses in the Engineering program, advise students on academic matters and perform service duties as needed within the department, division or academic school.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Teach assigned courses (including class preparation, grading, and other related teaching activities)
* Supervise engineering research projects
* Assist in maintaining the engineering labs
* Maintain course syllabi and post it on the intranet for each class
* Maintain thorough and current faculty portfolio
* May serve as student advisor
* Participate in divisional/departmental meetings and activities (including curriculum development, serving on committees, advising core curricula organizations)
* Engage in professional development activities
* Participate in University service activities
* Attend required meetings (including chapel, faculty/staff meetings, and convocations)
* Continuously monitor research and trends to make recommendations concerning program and course updates
* Support activities related to the academic school, division, and/or department
* Maintain regular posted office hours to be available to students
* Communicates the religious beliefs of BJU to students and student affiliates
* Answers questions concerning faith, doctrine and creed of BJU to constituents, students, or those inquiring about BJU

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

* Possess knowledge of teaching field
* Effective in oral and written communication
* Demonstrate excellent communication skills in the classroom and interpersonally with students
* Demonstrate organizational abilities in teaching and classroom management
* Willingness to attend the BJU Summer Institute in Teaching Science
* Desire to create a 'natural critical learning environment' for students in and out of the classroom
* Commitment to a biblically consistent view of science as articulated in the BJU Division of Natural Science philosophy statement
* Professional in appearance and presentation
* Exemplify a biblical role model for students and colleagues
* Graduate degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering
* Master's degree required, terminal degree and/or P.E. certification preferred
* Teaching experience preferred
