We welcome candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of our academic community.The Yerkes National Primate Research Center seeks highly motivated applicants for the position of Chief of the Division of Pathology. The Yerkes Center is one of seven National Primate Research Centers funded by the NIH Office of Research Infrastructure Programs. The overarching goal of the Yerkes NPRC is to conduct innovative biomedical research that improves the health and well-being of human and nonhuman primates. Yerkes maintains approximately 7,500 rodents and 3,000 nonhuman primates, including macaques, sooty mangabeys, squirrel monkeys and chimpanzees, and supports over $88 million in annual sponsored research funding. Research programs at the Center include infectious diseases and vaccine development (AIDS, COVID-19 and others), neuroscience, and transplantation. The Yerkes Division of Pathology, which consists of 2 staff pathologists and 18 staff members, conducts a number of activities to support clinical care of the animal colony and advance research, including: Provision of diagnostic pathology services, including clinical pathology, histology, molecular pathology and necropsy services Conducting independent and collaborative research projectsMaintenance and distribution of a rich resource of nonhuman primate biological specimens to Yerkes and outside investigatorsThe successful candidate will be expected to lead the Yerkes Pathology Division to maintain cutting-edge diagnostic pathology services, to work collaboratively with colleagues in the Division of Animal Resources and research divisions, to advance the training of veterinary pathologists as well as laboratory animal residents, and to support and foster externally-funded research programs within the Yerkes Pathology Division. The minimum qualifications for this position include a DVM or equivalent degree with at least five years of experience or training in veterinary pathology. Diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Pathologists is strongly preferred; however, exceptional candidates who are board eligible will be considered. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, an ability to communicate effectively, and an ability to work collaboratively with diverse communities. Prior experience with nonhuman primate pathology is highly desirable. The successful candidate will be appointed as an Associate or Assistant Research Professor at Yerkes and proposed for a joint appointment in the Emory University School of Medicine Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine.
