RTI International is looking for a full-time Post-Doctoral Scholar (starting August 2021) to assist on a community-based HIV research study within the Substance Use, Gender, and Applied Research program. This position will provide the successful prospect the opportunity to contribute to research publications for a North Carolina-based HIV prevention trial reaching African American young women. They may also expand their knowledge of multidisciplinary community-based research that seeks to reduce substance use, HIV, and other risk behaviors. The candidate will be involved in dissemination of study findings to community-based clinics and key stakeholders.


• Conduct mixed methods data analysis
• Contribute to scientific manuscript development and preparation
• Support project deliverable development as needed
• Present data at conferences and other events
• Conduct literature reviews
• Assist with other various research-related tasks


• Doctoral degree in public health, psychology, sociology, education, social work or related field (successful dissertation defense by August 2021)
• Experienced and skilled with quantitative data sets and analysis software
• Strong writing and synthesis of literature/research
• Author or co-author of peer-reviewed manuscripts
• Energetic, enthusiastic and passionate in improving the health of others
• Ability to plan, anticipate and manage multiple tasks
• Ethics/human subjects research training (e.g., CITI)
• Driver's license with a clean driving record
• Have reliable transportation

Other Desired Qualifications

• Strong interest and commitment to gender-focused research, HIV, substance use and health disparity populations (e.g., African-American young women)
• Qualitative data analysis skills
• Previous experience with conducting community-based research in the U.S. South
• Research experience working with adolescents and young adults
