Assistant Professor - University of Washington Department of Physics

The University of Washington Department of Physics invites outstanding candidates in theoretical physics to apply for one or more full-time 9-month appointments at the tenure-track Assistant Professor level. The anticipated start date is September 2022. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. Successful candidates will be expected to establish a funded and internationally-recognized research program as well as teach and mentor students with excellence.

Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, quantum information and formal aspects of theoretical physics. This covers, for example, theories of the topological phases of matter, quantum field theory dynamics, emergent descriptions of space-time and quantum gravity, the connections between quantum entanglement and aspects of quantum dynamics involving thermalization, many-body localization, black hole information loss, dualities involving gravitational theories, and constraints on consistent quantum field theories. Also of interest is theoretical work on terrestrial or astrophysical signatures of physics beyond the standard model, including applications of atomic, nuclear, particle or condensed matter theoretical physics.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in or foreign equivalent degree in Physics, or a related field, by the date of appointment.

Applications should be submitted to http://apply.interfolio.com/93004 and include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a statement of future research interests, a statement outlining teaching experience, interest and philosophy, and a statement describing their past and proposed efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the field, together with three letters of reference.

Review of applications will begin on October 1, 2021. Please direct all inquiries to facsrch@uw.edu.
