The Surgical Critical Care Initiative (SC2i), funded by the DoDs Defense Health Program, was founded in 2013 to develop decision making tools in the management of complex and critically injured patients. SC2i brings together clinicians and scientists to gather and analyze information ranging from simple observation to bio-banked tissue samples, and makes the resulting data available for use in computerized statistical models that, critically, produce decision guidance tools that can quickly be used to improve clinical practice and outcomes. There are multiple opportunities for professional development.The Associate Director of Research Projects is a critical role that will oversee this initiative at Emory's Grady campus. Responsibilities include:Horizontal integration with multiple entities to bring disparate services together to enhance the patients experience, streamline operations, and promote adherence to regulations. This includes multidisciplinary teams from Emory School of Medicine, Morehouse School of Medicine, Grady Memorial Hospital, external Sponsors/Institutions. Examples of activities in this category: provide expert guidance to streamline procedures to improve enrollment, protocol compliance, patient satisfaction, sample collection, informed consent process and communication pathways among multidisciplinary teams.High level interface with consortium leadership providing formal, objective, and meaningful feedback representative of the Emory site.Managing and defining deliverables upward and downward, facilitating forward movement through visual project tracking to meet deadlines.Partnering with RAS and funding agency on grant finances including progress reports, salary distributions, expenses, etc. for a large multi-faceted award.Scheduling and facilitating SC2i team meetings (monthly and bi-annual).Over time this position will engage with other surgical specialties conducting research activities at this location (such as vascular surgery, oral surgery).JOB DESCRIPTION: Reports to a principal investigator of sponsored projects. Exercises considerable latitude and independent judgment in overseeing the day-to-day operation of the research core. Serves as a consultant and provides technical expertise in scientific theory, research and methods of collection and analysis of data sets for a variety of research projects. Using an advanced knowledge of research methodology and techniques, provides leadership in the planning and development of survey instruments, guidelines, and procedures to collect required data. Coordinates various aspects of the study. Routinely develops research protocols. Reviews and edits text for studies. Conducts extensive literature searches and effectively summarizes reported research findings and their applicability to the research. Coordinates research and intervention activities with the team. Provides direction to consultants and team members. Coordinates and conducts special meetings. Develops and conducts presentations, represents Emory at national meetings, and co-authors publications. Collaborates on or authors reports and papers.Performs related responsibilities as required.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Sociology, Psychology or a related discipline and five or more years of research/professional experience, OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training. Effective writing, analytic, presentation and organizational skills. Experience managing and executing multiple projects and working with senior health policy makers and executives is preferred. Experience conducting focus groups.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Project management experience.Demonstrated leadership skills.NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University location as needed.
