Job Summary

The Polytechnic Institute in the applied Research department is seeking a Senior Researcher and Grant Writer. This unique position supports the research mission of the Polytechnic Institute.

Primary responsibilities include:
  • Providing ongoing support to Polytechnic's vision and mission for research and external funding efforts;
  • Identifying funding opportunities and facilitating recruitment and organization of faculty groups to capitalize on funding opportunities;
  • Working with faculty teams and individual faculty in strategic areas, with a particular focus on supporting junior faculty in developing responses to specific calls;
  • Managing proposal development by working with faculty, allowing ample time for the proposals to be written, assembled, checked, proofread and submitted within required deadlines;
  • Assisting Polytechnic faculty in developing initial content drafts for proposal development;
  • Developing a comprehensive understanding of Polytechnic capabilities and strengths and connect researchers with funding opportunities and research resources;
  • Developing a strategy for becoming competitive in research;
  • Supporting a transparent and inclusive environment for faculty and staff that flexes across the college aligned with the College's research strategy framework.


Required:
  • Masters degree in STEM, Communications or closely related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in successful grant writing.
  • Knowledge of the sponsored pre-award and post award processes and policies.
  • Knowledge of project management practices and techniques.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 suite of software and apps.
  • Proficient in data analysis and generating and writing technical reports.
  • Knowledge of external funding landscape and ability to analyze and identify relevant funding opportunities.
  • Written and verbal communications skills; demonstrated ability to articulate compelling and impactful scientific/academic communication.
  • Adept at working with diverse interdisciplinary teams.
  • Interpersonal skills and follow through to build strong relationships and trust with faculty.
  • Networking and relationship building skills to support and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion for research excellence
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, ever-changing collaborative academic environment, with limited supervision under tight deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with an ethnically and culturally diverse population.
  • Ability to interpret and adhere to sponsor regulations and proposal guidelines.
  • Ability to develop, write and submit successful grant applications.
  • Ability to design resource tools, materials and presentations for writing proposals.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate multiple projects, set schedules, and track items to completion and highly organized.
  • Ability to synthesize concepts and requirements, analyze data, and effectively communicate complex scientific ideas to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Ability to facilitate collaborator interactions.
  • Ability to understand and explain organizational policies and positions on topics such as intellectual property rights, facilities, and administrative costs, and cost-sharing.
