JOB PURPOSE:

To complete customer requests by receiving, entering and processing all UP Print related work, including digital printing, scanning and finishing requests.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate's responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Machine control and operating :
    • Receive (electronic/hard copy) requests for printing and processing;
    • Operating printing/copier machines;
    • Requisition required material to complete printing request;
    • Study the operation of the machine, based on training, experience and advice, and optimize the usage of the machine;
    • Monitor the machine's production, quality, and capabilities;
    • Process the printing to specification, using the appropriate material as per the job card;
    • Match print request with output;
    • Operate various finishing machines to customer's specification, and perform ongoing quality control while completing each task;
  • Machine first line support:
    • Ensure machine is in good working condition, and clean machine on a regular basis;
    • Request equipment supplier approved chemicals and consumables for cleaning machine as and when required;
    • Complete all equipment supplier recommended operator maintenance tasks, as well as all first line machine technical and operational trouble shooting/problem solving exercises;
    • Inform production supervisor of any machine failures and breakdowns, both resolved and not resolved, and make recommendations on remedies, or the need to contact equipment supplier support services in case of specialized service required by machine;
    • Maintain overall good housekeeping practice in and around the machine, and request chemicals for cleaning, and consumables as needed;
  • General Administration:
    • Keep register of all tasks completed up to date;
    • Keep statistics and calculate totals of printing done;
    • Keep working area clean and neat;
    • Maintain quality service by dealing with enquiries about printing tasks;
    • Contribute to team effort by maintaining high level of performance, and expose and/or avail self to industry new trends and training programmes;
  • Substitute:
    • Assist in other sections of print room, or specific tasks, when needed;
    • Carry out additional duties or responsibilities, which fall reasonably within the scope of the job description, or in accordance with operational requirements.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Grade 12 certificate;
  • Two years' experience in the operation of:
    • Printing press;
    • Collating and binding machines;
    • Finisher, e.g. stitching/stapling, punching and guillotine.

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
  • Completion of machine operator's course/Photostat operators' course;
  • Completion of short course in the use of collating and binding machines;
  • Minimum of four years' experience in:
    • Basic administrative duties;
    • Computer literacy;
    • Experience in driving a light passenger vehicle;
  • Valid driver's license.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
