We are looking for a School Nurse to join our team in Cambridge, MA.

General Description
The school nurse will be responsible to provide nursing care and management of the special needs of students as well as medication administration. Immunization surveillance and routine health screenings will be conducted annually. Routine emergency care will be provided for students and staff. When necessary, students will be referred to their primary health care provider for an evaluation. For students with complex medical needs, the school nurse will act as a liaison for the school, home and outside medical facilities. As an education team member, the nurse will interpret medical data and provide a health plan for student
Responsibilities include but are not limited to-
● Administer daily and PRN medications and nursing care procedures prescribed by the student's physician.
● Monitor students with diabetes
● Administer first aid and care to ill or injured students.
● Provide emergency care for students and staff when needed
● Record nursing interventions (following each student visit).
● Maintain up-to-date and cumulative health records for all students.
● Monitor student immunizations (as required by law).
● Submit required health information to Department of Public Health
● Facilitate screenings (vision, hearing, etc.) and perform follow ups as needed.
● Provide in-service training for staff (Universal Prec., Allergy Awareness, etc.).
● Create, maintain and oversee implementation of Individual Health Care Plans for students with chronic and acute conditions.
● Communicate health-related policies and information to families
● Authorize exclusion and re-admission of students with infections and/or contagious diseases.
● Assist families in identifying appropriate community health resources.
● Identify students showing signs of abuse or neglect to administration and counselor for referral to the Department of Children and Families,
● If needed provide in-class instruction on health- related topics

The school nurse will work directly with the Director of Special Education as well as with other school Administration to implement and manage a coordinated school health program.
Qualifications
● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including strong public speaking skills;
● Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required; Master's degree is preferred;
● Massachusetts license as a Registered Nurse; Massachusetts State Department of Education School Nurse Licensure; Preferred
● CPR & First Aid Certification;
● Experience working with children and adolescents in public school/agency/human services setting (Preferred: Experience in support services in a school setting; liaison and case management; high risk, multi-problem children and adolescents); and
● Current authorization to work in the United States - A candidate must have such authorization by his or her first day of employment.
● The school values linguistic diversity and believes that candidates who speak another language bring added value to the classroom, school, and district culture and diversity. We are interested in candidates who are fluent in one of Bannekers' official languages: Spanish, Creole (Cape Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Somali.
Salary commensurate with experience. Position open immediately.
