Real world evidence (RWE) has become a vital complement to the traditional clinical trial in the demonstration of the value and safety of new medicines. Recognizing its importance, Gilead has established a core RWE Analytics group within the Clinical Data Sciences (CDS) - RWE Organization to support the use of RWE across the discovery, development, and lifecycle of our medicines. As a member of the core RWE Analytics group, individuals will have access to RWE databases in-licensed across Gilead and Kite and act as the stewards of Gilead's best practices, standards, and methodologies underlying the use of real-world data (RWD).

Additional:

The Associate Director, RWD Programmer will report to the Head of RWE Analytics and be responsible for the design and conduct statistical of analyses for selected products within a therapeutic area utilizing appropriate methods and data sources. The incumbent will work closely with Therapeutic Area (TA)-aligned Epidemiologists to conduct timely, relevant and rigorous analysis of RWD to address critical research questions, as well as collaborate within CDS to develop, refine, and scale data management and analytic procedures, systems, workflows, best practices, and other issues.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct analysis and develops specifications for descriptive and comparative studies
  • Develop TFLs and QC for protocols/reports/manuscripts via data analysis
  • Conduct QC for complex and/or novel designed descriptive or comparative SAPs
  • Oversee and/or actively contribute to analysis/validation projects utilizing industry-standard analytic tools
  • Collaborate with Epidemiologists to develop and review SAP and data monitoring plan for descriptive and comparative analyses
  • Work with Epidemiologists to generate code lists for complex measures
  • Create and maintain infrastructure for coding library and maintains query-capable tools
  • Develop new data standards for RWE Function and ensure adequate data standards, data cleaning, quality control, and preparation of datasets
  • Consider new data sources for disease areas; develop and implement feasibility assessments; coordinate with other Data Analysts and/or vendor to obtain feasibility counts for planning studies
  • May identify, assess, and integrate/implement new technology and analytic tools
  • Work collaboratively with Epidemiologists to maintain methodological rigor while ensuring pragmatic efficiencies across assigned studies/projects
  • Liaise with IT (or other groups as specified by data governance) to integrate, refresh, QC and maintain secondary data sources for analysis
  • Explore RWD query tools that may be useful for broader staff beyond the Data Analytics group
  • Mentor junior data analysts to ensure competence in epidemiologic skills and knowledge


Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
  • Master's degree (e.g. MA, MSc, MPH) in Biostatistics, Epidemiology or related discipline, such as Outcomes Research from an accredited institution, with a minimum of eight (8) years of relevant, post-graduation experience.
  • Doctoral-level training with a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience is preferred. Direct experience in lieu of academic training is acceptable.
  • Knowledge of real-world data and experience in observational research study design, execution and communication.
  • Strong track record of analysis of a broad range of RWD, especially electronic medical record and claims databases.
  • Formal training in Programming and demonstrated proficiency in statistical analysis programs commonly used in life sciences (e.g. SAS, R).
  • Understanding of epidemiology or outcomes research and the application of retrospective or prospective studies to generate real-world evidence.
  • Ability to effectively communicate statistical methodology and analysis results.
  • Demonstrate excellent attention to detail, teamwork, and initiative, with flexibility to adapt to the needs of the organization; maintain meticulous attention to project deadlines.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of US secondary data sources required; additional experience with international data sources is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in qualitative analysis and data sets (e.g., free-text natural language processing, survey data) is preferred.
