The Department of Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Research Associate 2. The Sr. Research Associate 2 supports research activities under the direction of a principle investigator, program director or designee of the principle investigator or program director.

  • Contributes to basic and applied research activities by collecting and analyzing data, maintaining databases etc...
  • Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures
  • Participates in the publication of significant results, to include authorship of scientific monographs
  • Advances expertise through continued education, training and/or research.
  • Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.
  • Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice and guidance.

Specific to the lab, the Sr. Research Associate 2 will be expected to do the following:

Breeding and genotyping mice, ear tagging and tail clipping and separate mice, arrange mice into cages based on age/sex for experiments up to 400 mice at a time as needed over several projects with different collaborators. Perform surgeries on mice to induce cancer, perform weekly eye/tail/IP injections of chemotherapy, perform tracheal aspirations of LPS Expose mice to cyclical intermittent hypoxia, check mice daily, troubleshoot all issues with cyclical intermittent hypoxia and gasses Harvest mice based on endpoints, perform a terminal bronchoalveolar lavage and perform all steps to preserve tissue including:

Use of formaldehyde, cryopreserve and store tissue at -80, slice tissue using cryostat and obtain signals using immunohistochemistry

Flash freeze tissue and perform all steps to prep tissue for Elisa/Westerns/PCR/RNAseq work

Perform all steps for single cell prep and flow cytometry work

Obtain microCT scans on mice to assess tumor progression, use ITKsnap to segment the lung tumors, work with engineers to use machine learning techniques to analyze data Perform tests to assess cancer fatigue Log everything online, maintain all logs of surgeries and narcotics, assist with data cleaning/analyses Have enthusiasm for science, enjoy teaching/training fellows and residents who spend 1-2 years in my lab The person will be trained superbly in each of these techniques systematically. The highly motivated individual will earn authorship on research publications and present data at research meetings. This position has an end date of 1 year with the possibility of extension contingent on funding.

Minimum Requirements:

Master's Degree in relevant field required

Minimum 1 to 3 year of relevant experience

  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
