The Maternal/Neonatal nurse is responsible for coordinating and providing individualized quality patient care utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, documentation and evaluation. Works cooperatively with ancillary, nursing and other patient-team personnel to maintain standards for professional nursing practice. These nursing functions of the RN are carried out according to the Pennsylvania Professional Nurse Act, Pennsylvania Code Title 49 Professional and Vocational Standards, hospital policy, the hospital Mission Statement and the hospital Philosophy of Nursing.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Performs systematic assessment of all assigned patients.
  • Formulates collaborative and individualized plan of care and identifies expected patient outcomes, using the nursing process and patient birth plan.
  • Implements, evaluates and documents patient care interventions and effectiveness in accordance with care plan.
  • Organizes, coordinates and prioritizes patient care consistently utilizing available resources.
  • Maintains an awareness of unit budget.
  • Functions as a professional role model and resource person providing guidance to coworkers.
  • Demonstrates competency in the assessment, range of treatment, knowledge of growth and development and communication appropriate to the age of the patient treated.
  • Takes active role in unit-based performance improvement and committees, as appropriate.
  • Maintains responsibility for own professional development through active participation in in-services and/or continuing education programs and documents completion.
  • Complies with established chain of command for work related problems.
  • Participates in identifying unit needs and supports unit goals and objectives that contribute to the growth, safety and patient satisfaction.
  • Maintains departmental records for administrative and regulatory purposes.
  • Collaborates with other caregivers with the use of huddles and facilitate teamwork to assure appropriate staffing levels on all shifts.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/ Entity as well as the proper release of information.
  • Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements
  • Demonstrates/models the Networks Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external).
  • Demonstrates Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety.
  • Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices.
  • Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.
