Missouri State University, located in Springfield, Missouri, invites applications for the position of Dean of the College of Education. The University seeks a visionary, dynamic and energetic leader who will guide and inspire the College to meet expanding and changing education needs. As chief administrative officer of the College, the Dean will provide professional, intellectual, and administrative leadership while helping to pursue pathways consistent with the Public Affairs mission of the university. The Dean is expected to work collaboratively with, and advocate for, faculty, staff, and students by promoting excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service; encouraging faculty development; facilitating student recruitment and retention; supporting a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion; building partnerships with external constituents and public organizations; engaging in fundraising and alumni relations; and demonstrating sound fiscal management.

Candidates must have the following:

1) A terminal degree in a discipline within the college or related field

2) Credentials consistent with an appointment at the rank of full professor

3) Evidence of significant academic administrative accomplishments, including but not limited to fiscal oversight, personnel management, program accreditation, and strategic planning

4) Evidence of successful leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, and interdisciplinary and organizational collaboration

5) A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion

6) Experience in fundraising, alumni relations, and development activities

The College

The College of Education is one of seven academic colleges at Missouri State University. There are approximately 2400 majors in three departments and the Dean has oversight of Greenwood Laboratory School (K-12), the Child Development Center and the Agency for Teaching, Leading and Learning. The three departments are:
  • Childhood Education and Family Studies
  • Counseling, Leadership and Special Education
  • Reading, Foundations and Technology

The departments offer 12 baccalaureate programs and 36 Master's programs (all including certificates). The nearly 65 full-time faculty teach a sizable number of courses in the University's general education curriculum. Missouri State University's College of Education is one of the leaders in graduating K-12 teachers in the state of Missouri. Teacher education and care for public school education has always been at the heart of Missouri State University. We got our start in 1906 as a Normal School-Missouri State Normal School, Fourth District-and then became a Teachers College in 1919.
