Job Information

Florida International University's School of Education and Human Development and the Center for Children and Families is seeking applicants for an exceptional postdoctoral associate to work under the mentorship of Dr. Michelle Cumming on funded research grant(s). The emphasis of the research is on middle school students with significant behavior problems in school settings, specifically related to the following:

* Pathways to student academic and behavior problem onset and escalation with a focus on executive function and school-related stressors.
* Disproportionate exclusionary discipline for culturally and linguistically diverse students and the impact of culturally responsive practices and positive discipline.

Position Overview

Through close collaboration with Dr. Cumming, the selected postdoctoral associate will be asked to take on a leadership role in this work. Appointment will be for 1 year (optional additional year), starting June, 2020 (negotiable).

Responsibilities may include:

* Assisting with project oversight, recruitment, timeline compliance, outreach activities
* Serving as liaison between the research project and school partner
* Supervising data collection and management
* Utilizing a variety of methodological procedures and data analyses techniques
* Assisting with preparation of reports, presentations, and publications
* Performing other related duties as assigned or as directed

Opportunities will include the following:

* Mentorship centered around the postdoctoral associate career goals
* Experience in large cross-disciplinary, longitudinal research project(s)
* Support for writing, presenting, and grant development
* Guidance on developing an independent line of research

Qualified candidates should have a doctorate in a social science field (e.g., special education, school psychology, educational psychology, clinical psychology, or related discipline). Candidates with experience in school-based special education/mental health research, school partnerships, and project management are especially encouraged to apply. A strong publication record and advanced quantitative methods are beneficial.
