A postdoctoral position is open in the laboratory of Fouad Kandeel in the Department of Translational Research & Cellular Therapeutics at the City of Hope Beckman Research Institute. The Kandeel laboratory studies islet biology and the refinement of cell-based therapies for the amelioration of type 1 diabetes and the prevention of its complications.

Our work focuses on translational studies that have high potential for bringing research results to the clinic; most specific, cell replacement therapy using insulin-producing pancreatic islet cells (islet transplantation) to cure diabetes. The Kandeel lab is currently focusing on establishing safe and minimally invasive approaches to islet transplantation by exploring novel transplantation sites such as tissue under the skin.

We seek an independent and highly motivated candidate interested in cell biology, physiology and bioengineering in diabetes, transplantation, and regenerative medicine.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree in life or biomedical sciences or a related discipline is required.
Experience in basic cell culture skills.
Experience in basic molecular biology skills.
Experience in animal models.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Good problem-solving skills, ability to conduct independent research, ability to work effectively in a team.
