A Staff Scientist position is available at City of Hope (COH) Beckman Research Institute. The High Throughput Screening (HTS) Core under the Shared Resources at COH provides services of assay development, assay optimization, high throughput screening, and lead optimization. The HTS Core plays a critical role in early phases of drug discovery, we are equipped with automated HTS system for the screening process, 100,000+ small molecule compound libraries, and highly trained and experienced staff. We are currently seeking a highly motivated scientist to join our dynamic team in joint effort with COH investigators to identify and optimize novel compounds for cancers and diabetes. We are seeking the candidate who will be excited about drug discovery, motivated to bring new therapies to patients, and have a desire to work in a fast-paced team environment. The candidate will have a track record of deep technical knowledge in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, assay development (cell based as well as biochemical assays), pharmacology, and a demonstrated ability to execute in a goal and team focused environment. The successful candidate will bring special skills, knowledge, and experience to research programs in the institutional core laboratories.

Responsibilities Include:

Utilizes broad technical expertise in cell biology, immune/tumor biology, biochemistry, and drug discovery/screen tool to expand translational medicine research
Demonstrates technical proficiency and troubleshooting to meet project deadlines
Interacts effectively with cross-functional teams and laboratories within City of Hope.
Establish and standardize methodology and develop novel techniques/assays.
Provides training to colleagues and contributes to building and fostering good team culture

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

Ph.D., MD, or equivalent degree in medical or life sciences, with >3 years of relevant post-doctoral experience.
Track records of highly productive cutting edge, multi-disciplinary research
Demonstrated hands on experience executing and implementing experiments utilizing state of art molecular biology, cell biology, and biochemical techniques.
Fluent in data analysis and data interpretation,
Prior experience with drug discovery, assay design, assay development or automation is preferred.
Experienced in cell imaging, primary cell culture, organoid culture or patient samples are highly desired.
Hands on experience with protein biochemical assays and protein lysate preparation are desired.
Hands on experience with a wide range of in vitro cellular or reporter assays such as primary cell culture, organoid/spheroid culture is desired.
Experience with patient sample handling including PBMC isolation, tumor cell isolation and immune cell culture is desired.
Experience in designing, optimizing assays and executing high-throughput screens is preferred.
Experience with live cell imaging and analysis is preferred.
Demonstrated independence in experimental execution, data analysis and troubleshooting are required.
Proficiency in utilizing software such as Graph Pad, LIMS, Microsoft office for data analysis and figure generation is required.
Attention to detail, demonstrate ability to generate reproducible results, excellent organizational and record keeping skills is a must.
Self-motivated, ability to work independently as well as in a team, also willing to write and follow protocols.
