At ViiV Healthcare our scientists are 100% dedicated to finding new ways to limit the impact of HIV on the 35 million people living with the virus. The goal of the Discovery research team is to identify drug targets, design assays to identify inhibitors of these targets and develop these inhibitors through iterative processes to identify novel drug candidates. One aspect that the ViiV Discovery team is currently focused on is early phase projects designed to identify drug candidates for use in antiviral therapy and/or cure of HIV. We are seeking a Scientific Leader/ Investigator to help us develop molecular and cell-based assays that will help us meet this goal. Key responsibilities: Independently execute experiments and generate data in a timely fashion Contribute to the development of novel molecular and cell-based assays Maintain awareness of relevant literature, integrating new methodologies into workstream Effectively resolve technical challenges using subject matter expertise Clear communication of results to study teams as well as in written reports If you share our priorities of innovation, performance and trust and are motivated to contribute towards bringing lifesaving drugs to patients, we would like to hear from you. Basic Requirements Bachelor's in Biological Sciences or relevant field with a minimum of 5+ years of experience or equivalent Demonstrated hands-on virology expertise Demonstrated hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, cloning, sequence analysis) Demonstrated hands-on experience with cell culture and aseptic techniques, including primary cells (e.g., PBMCs) Acceptable to working with infectious human immunodeficiency virus type-1 (HIV-1) (experience a plus) Basic knowledge of SPR assays or flow cytometry is preferable Experience analyzing data, interpreting results, and maintaining accurate and complete laboratory records Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience in biotechnology of pharmaceutical industry Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to execute experiments to meet deadlines Self-starter with a successful track record managing multiple projects simultaneously Excellent analytical and organization skills Preferred Qualifications: If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus: Good communication skills with stakeholders People Management skills to lead and provide guidance to assigned analysts Basic knowledge of business process within GSK Why GSK?
