Assistant Professor - (Late) Twentieth-and Twenty-First Century German Studies

The Department of Germanic Studies at the University of Texas at Austin seeks applicants for a tenure track position specializing in (Late) Twentieth-and Twenty-First Century German Studies, to begin Fall semester, academic year 2022-23. The successful candidate will maintain an active research and publication program related to a specialization such as contemporary German literature, cultural diversity, gender studies, early twentieth-century and new media culture, digital literature, and twenty-first-century cross-media culture. The successful candidate will also demonstrate commitment to both undergraduate and graduate education, including as a mentor, research supervisor, and curriculum developer. In addition to undergraduate and graduate teaching, and research, duties will include service to the Department, the College of Liberal Arts, and the University. We are interested in candidates who will contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education through their teaching, research and service.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. by August 18th, 2022, for appointment as Assistant Professor, or expect to obtain it within a year of joining the faculty as Instructor. Additional qualifications include: evidence of native or near-native command of the German language, excellent teaching (in both German and English), an established publication record, the ability to design and disseminate digital, multimodal resources and tools for language learning and the study of culture, the potential to supervise and mentor teaching assistants at a large research university with an increasingly diverse student body, the ability to plan, implement, and evaluate curricular reform/revision, the ability to engage in departmental assessment activities, the ability to supervise theses and dissertations, and broad engagement in the life of a department.
