The Jain Lab (https://ishajainlab.com/) at the Gladstone Institutes is looking for a research associate to begin working summer 2021. The scientific goal is to study oxygen metabolism and develop hypoxia/hyperoxia as a therapy for age-associated disorders. This position will require a combination of wet lab molecular biology/biochemistry experiments, as well as animal work. Applicant will be expected to perform a range of experimental techniques (cloning, western blots, protein biochemistry, tissue culture, microscopy, etc.) as well as animal husbandry (maintaining mouse colonies, designing breeding schemes, keeping daily record of body weights/survival/activity, behavioral studies, basic dissections, etc.). They will also be responsible for lab administrative responsibilities, such as maintaining and organizing lab inventory and interacting with buyers/sales reps.
Applicant should be able to perform basic quantitative tasks (e.g. dilutions, molarity calculations, manipulating excel files, database management, etc.).Strong communication skills, with a background in molecular biology and cell culture preferred. Applicants intending on progressing to graduate school are encouraged to apply. A college degree (preferred) and laboratory experience is required. Associate will work closely with the principal investigator, potentially resulting in first-author publications and conference presentations. Salary competitive and commensurate with experience.
