Seeking a highly motivated and skilled Cyber Security Analyst to join the operational Information Security team.

Reporting to the Cyber Security Operations Lead, the Cyber Security Analyst position forms an integral part of the operational security Blue Team tasked with building resilience against multifarious external and internal cyber threats with the aim to reducing detection and response times. The role is also responsible for proactively planning, implementing and operating cyber security tools and roll-out enhancements to security controls.

This operational security team enables the University to achieve its strategic goals as articulated in the Future Making strategic plan by protecting information assets that support research, learning and teaching and, administrative activities, by fostering a security-aware culture, engendering trust, and protecting the established brand.

As a part of the Blue Team, the position will perform daily intelligence gathering, triage of alerts and alarms raised by the AARNet Security Operations Centre (SOC) and the Splunk SIEM, developing and enhancing use cases and playbooks for detecting and responding to Indicators of Compromise (IoCs), responding to incidents and customer requests, regular vulnerability scanning of assets, threat hunting, and performing security assessments including penetration testing.

To be successful you will need:

• Demonstrated understanding of IT infrastructure technologies including IP networking, client/server operating systems (Windows, Unix, and MacOS), database systems, and messaging systems.
• Demonstrated experience with security tools including SIEMs, vulnerability scanners, firewalls, endpoint security protection/anti-malware solutions, and security assessment tools.
• Good working knowledge of cyber security threats and preventive/detective technologies and techniques.
• Ability to write program code in a scripting language such as Python and JavaScript is a plus.
• Well-developed verbal, written communication skills with the ability to build rapport with various stakeholders.
