DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs technical chemical analysis according to clearly prescribed procedures and laboratory techniques. Performs chemical and bacteriological analysis of various materials, chemical and physical analysis of water samples. Conducts routine analysis and non-routine analysis of drinking water and raw water samples. Prepares standard solutions and reagents for use in chemical testing. Receives, logs and stores samples for laboratory analysis. Check test results; interprets test results; prepares and distributes required reports. Maintains inventory, order laboratory chemicals, equipment and supplies. Implements quality assurance procedures. Maintains, troubleshoots and performs minor repairs on test equipment/instruments. Enters data into the LIMS system.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/WORKING CONDITIONS
The position occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional very light lifting, such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns.

This is a Department of Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier _II Level .

Job Requirements:
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a closely related field.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
One year of laboratory work experience is required.

MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
NonePreference will also be given to applicants NELAP experience and with outstanding communication skills.
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.** SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED: None
However, the Department may administer a skill assessment evaluation.
