The Associate Director of Research is a Senior Academic Researcher that reports to and is guided by the Deputy Director of Research and Policy. This position serves as one of four Associate Directors that each manage one of the offices of Research, Policy, Narrative, and Advocacy. The Associate Director supervises multiple Assistant Directors of Research. The Associate Director has expertise in various social science methodologies, and in collaboration with the relevant project chairs supervise original research produced by the Center in order to ensure its quality and integrity. The Associate Director brings their research expertise to bear on building and maintaining the nation's foremost racial data lab (which includes a racial data tracker and racial policy tracker), establishing and managing an affiliated faculty and graduate student program, coordinating research and policy teams with the Associate Director of Policy, and developing other Research Office projects and initiatives. Under the guidance of the Deputy Director of Research and Policy, they help envision and execute the Research Office's strategic plan; design, build, staff, and execute the Research Office's projects in accordance with the strategic plan; build working relationships with BU and non-BU collaborators; solicit grant and gift funds; write and review grant applications and reports; ensure compliance with grant obligations. The Associate Director will also serve as a Principal Investigator on grants and supervise graduate students in their Center-related research.

Preferred applicants may have a Ph.D. in a relevant Social Science discipline and significant experience designing, supervising, and executing complex research projects. They will be well versed in various social science research methodologies, including qualitative and quantitative methods. They will have substantial experience-seeking, applying for, and managing grants and, possibly, gift funds. They will know how to effectively supervise multiple direct reports and to work in a collaborative, interdisciplinary setting. They will have experience conducting and a demonstrated commitment to antiracism research and policy reform.
