About Binghamton University:

The state of New York provided $60 million to establish a School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at Binghamton University. The school, which enrolled its inaugural PharmD class in 2017, is housed in a state-of-the-art, 105,000 square-foot building dedicated to research and education and located at the University's new Health Sciences Campus. The school's outstanding pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences leaders use contemporary medication management and innovative research to transform human health locally and globally. The research and clinically focused school is training the next generations of graduates to deliver evidence-based, patient-centered pharmaceutical care to diverse groups of patients, especially those in underserved rural and geriatric communities. Our new pharmacy simulations laboratory houses a hospital pharmacy with a 797-compliant sterile room, community pharmacy with a robotic dispenser, patient home setting, and three hospital rooms complete with electrocardiographic/respiratory/hemodynamic monitoring and high-fidelity manikins.

The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE). In the future, the PhD program under development will be renowned for its contributions to translational, clinical and outcomes research within the changing landscape of drug development, pharmacy practice and clinical science.

Job Description:

Budget Title: Assistant Dean (SL-5)

Salary: Commensurate with education and experience

Binghamton University School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences invites applications for a full-time Assistant Dean for Experiential Education. This individual will provide leadership, vision and oversight of required clinical experiences for all students. This 12-month position offers an exciting opportunity to lead a vibrant experiential team that oversees preceptors and sites in the Southern Tier, central and western New York, New York City Metro area, and Long Island, as well as Pennsylvania. The ideal candidate is a self-directed, results-oriented individual who leads by example and works harmoniously within a team. This position leads an independent division of the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, reports directly to the Dean, and will collaborate closely with the chair and faculty of the Department of Pharmacy Practice to provide high-quality experiential education to students. The Assistant Dean has oversight of an independent budget.

The selected candidate will hold a concurrent faculty appointment at a rank consistent with their experience (assistant, associate, or full professor) in the non-tenure track.

Primary duties and responsibilities:

* Oversee an experiential team of three coordinators (two faculty and one staff) and be supported by an administrative assistant.
* Provide guidance, mentorship and vision in experiential education to grow the number of volunteer preceptors and experiential sites.
* Manage and problem-solve daily operations of the experiential program that require coordination of experiential staff, preceptors, faculty, students, and other key stakeholders, including an independent budget.
* Oversight of CORE ELMS (experiential learning management database) for relevant items pertaining to IPPE and APPEs, including student placement, student portfolios and preceptor schedules, preceptor/site information, document library reporting, evaluations, and assessment of outcomes.
* Support the school's Assessment and Evaluation Committee and Committee on Awards and Progression with appropriate data (assessment data, student and preceptor documentation, etc.).
* Ensure all new preceptors and sites have been reviewed and approved by the school and have been educated on the school's policies and procedures for IPPE and APPEs.
* Execute and maintain updated affiliation agreements.

Contribute to the continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives:

* Conduct biennial reviews of the site and preceptor evaluations to retain high quality sites and preceptors.
* Collaborate with the team to develop and maintain preceptor development programs.
* Represent Binghamton University as a member of the Empire Experiential Education Consortium (EEEC).
* Strong decision making, analytical, problem solving, critical thinking and project management skills.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Chair and collaborate with our Experiential Education Advisory Committee (EEAC) to establish, develop, and monitor effective, learner-centered APPE and IPPE experiences for students. Participate in teaching didactic coursework and experiential simulations, oversee and assign team faculty teaching assignments.
* Maintain the experiential manuals and course syllabi, updating as needed.
* Involves travel up to 20% of time.

Requirements:

* PharmD degree or equivalent and be eligible for licensure in the State of New York
* Minimum of 3 years of full-time experience in pharmacy education, hospital pharmacy, prior experience as a supervisor or resident (experiential experience preferred)
* Prior experience precepting APPE students in an institutional or community setting

Preferred:

* Prior experience as a faculty member at a school/college of pharmacy
