*Energy Science and Engineering (ESE) Program Director Opportunity within the Bredesen Center **Regular Full-time, Market Range 12* The *Bredesen Center for Interdisciplinary Research and Graduate Education* is seeking applications from Current UT faculty or ORNL Researchers, who are able to obtain a Joint position, to serve as the *Energy Science and Engineering (ESE) Program Director*.This will be a 50% FTE Administrative Professional staff position. The ESE Program Director will develop a joint interdisciplinary core curriculum, teach the core courses, and guide students pursuing an ESE PhD degree within a team science setting at UT as part of the recently launched UT Oak Ridge Innovation Institute (UT-ORII). The ESE program encapsulates a broad intersection of scientific methods and problem-solving strategies derived from numerous disciplines that are applied to improve the world's ability to safely and sustainably create the energy required to power human activities. The ESE program director will report to the Bredesen Center Director/UT-ORII Education Director. The program director will work in close collaboration with directors of other UT-ORNL joint interdisciplinary research programs including Data Science and Engineering (DSE) and Genome Science and Technology (GST) to bring about innovative ideas for convergent curriculum that are in alignment with visions of UT and ORNL. The Program Director will become part of the educational leadership team led by the Educational Director of UT-ORII. Roles and Responsibilities of the Position The ESE Program Director will develop, maintain and teach interdisciplinary core curriculum (511 and 512, each are 3 credit hours) and seminar courses (ESE 599, 1 credit hour). ESE 511 and 512 are offered during the fall and spring respectively while ESE 599 is offered in both. These courses are needed for the students pursuing a PhD to complete their graduation requirements. To ensure these students are equipped with state-of-the-art knowledge in this rapidly changing energy landscape, the ESE Program Director will ensure the course materials, assignments and student assessments are relevant to both emerging and legacy energy science and technology. The ESE Program Director will also collaborate with Bredesen Center faculty at UTK and ORNL as well as faculty from all colleges within UTK to ensure the course topics remain at the leading edge while the background topics are covered by the core departments. The faculty will maintain a good student evaluation that is on par with peers at other departments. In addition, the faculty will work with the UT-ORII Education Director and the Bredesen Center Director to identify the resources needed to deliver these core courses at the highest levels of standards among our peers within UTK and across the US. The faculty will also identify challenges in maintaining the student outcomes in the ESE program and communicate the same to the UT-ORII Education Director in a proactive fashion. The ESE Program Director will assist in recruiting efforts by providing applicants with information about research opportunities across UT and ORNL. The Program Director will also assist in matching enrolled students with mentors at UT and ORNL interested in working with an interdisciplinary PhD student.

Doctoral degree in Science or Engineering or a related area Record of accomplished scholarship and funded research equivalent to that of assistant professorExperience in teaching graduate level courses with clear focus on student outcomes relevant to learning and retaining the knowledge necessary for interdisciplinary research.Familiarity with both UT's and ORNL's research community is needed to be able to assist with matching graduate students to suitable research projects.*NOTE: Your application should include an uploaded copy of your CV and a letter of interest.*
