Job Description:

The Biology Department at Mount Saint Mary's University (Los Angeles) invites applicants with a doctoral degree in the Biological Sciences or Nursing Practice, for a full-time position as Pre-Nursing Programs Director and Instructor. This position acts as the central direct link between the university, faculty and students on a day-to-day basis, coordinating and overseeing all short and long-term academic needs in the Pre-Nursing Programs, including BS.NUR/PRE (Pre-Nur Direct), BS.NUR/PRE FT (Pre-Nursing FastTrack), BS.NUR/PRE (BS.Pre-Nursing) and Online AS.Pre-Health Science. Additionally, this position requires teaching selected lower-division courses in these programs, such as Microbiology, Life Sciences, Anatomy and/or Physiology. Additional teaching roles may occasionally include First Year Seminar, Health Science, courses in the Biology major, and summer bridge courses. The programs' goals is to support and elevate student success in their path to joining the Nursing program or other health-related fields.

Requirements:

Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in the Biological Sciences or Nursing Practice and have taught in Pre-Nursing programs for at least 5 years. Preference will be given to applicants who have experience in working with first-generation traditionally underserved college freshmen who are on health-care career paths. Other preferred qualifications include involvement in professional development on teaching pedagogy, demonstrated teaching excellence, and experience with working directly with university administrators and support staff. An appreciation of the liberal arts tradition of education and service orientation, as well as experience or interest in contributing to and teaching in a diverse campus environment are required.

Administrative responsibilities include:

* Generally act as the central administrator, coordinating with University Administration, the Program Assessment Liaison (PAL), Department Chairs, program faculty, and the Nursing Department in active stewardship of the curriculum, and development and implementation of curricular and programmatic revisions resulting from documented needs for adaptation or change.
* Work with the department chairs (pre-nursing and nursing) in on-going program assessment to ensure that curriculum is aligned with identified, desired and measurable learning outcomes.
* Develop, implement and monitor with Administration, Department Chairs, and program faculty strategies for ensuring course and curricular continuity BS.NUR/PRE (Pre-Nur Direct), BS.NUR/PRE FT (Pre-Nursing FastTrack), BS.NUR/PRE (BS.Pre-Nursing) and Online AS.Pre-Health Science.
* Coordinate with MSMU Online staff and faculty to ensure quality and integrity between online and in-class pre-nursing courses.
* In communication with Academic Advising, Admissions, and Department Chairs, coordinate course and programmatic scheduling.
* Work with Department Chairs in identifying, selecting, and orienting adjunct faculty to teach program courses. If necessary, meet individually with faculty to ensure they are supported in meeting course and program demands and preparation for program courses.
* Ensure program faculty recognize and address differences in learning abilities of diverse student population.
* Act as a central student-faculty interface, in cooperation and coordination with Department Chairs, to address and facilitate the administration of student-faculty issues, in accordance with university policies and procedures.
* Work with Administration, Nursing faculty, and Pre-Nursing/Pre-Health faculty to help facilitate admissions to pre-TBSN and ADN programs.
* Attend TBSN faculty meetings, consult with TBSN admissions.
* Work with student-nurse association (CNSA) to facilitate and coordinate mentorship.

Faculty responsibilities include:

* Teaching primarily in the Pre-Nursing program, including courses such as Microbiology, Life Sciences, Anatomy and/or Physiology. Additional teaching roles may occasionally include First Year Seminar, Health Science, courses in the Biology major, and summer bridge courses.
* Active participation in department and university service, including committee service and attendance at department and University meetings.
* Participation in faculty development opportunities.
