This strategic collaboration among diverse health care fields allows knowledge to travel directly from the research bench to the patient's bedside. *Nature of Work: *(Summary)The Director for Research is responsible for leading long-term research strategy for the Colorado Center for Personalized Medicine (CCPM) Biobank Laboratory. This position will be responsible for the evaluation, prioritization, and implementation of laboratory research and development (R&D) opportunities that align with CCPM's mission and vision. In addition, the Director for Research will supervise day-to-day R&D activities in the laboratory. This position will work closely with the Clinical Laboratory Director for the development and validation of clinical assays which are expected to emerge from the research work. The Director for Research will serve as a member of the CCPM leadership team, supporting the Center Director in developing and documenting CCPM business and technical plans. In addition to the above, the Director for Research is expected to maintain an independent grant-funded line of research. The percent effort to be dedicated to grant-funded research will be partially determined based on the candidate's current and prior record of grant-funded research and personal preference.The successful candidate will be a strong, business-minded leader able to articulate a vision, motivate a team, and work effectively with colleagues and leaders of other CCPM units. Experience directing a research service facility or institutional core facility and familiarity with clinical laboratory regulations such as CLIA are highly desired. Evaluate internal and external opportunities for research in the field of personalized medicine, including the development of novel tests and technologies* Direct and manage day-to-day research laboratory operations, including laboratory staff, equipment, and methods
* Design experiments and analyze and interpret results
* Review scientific literature, present work at scientific meetings, publish research results
* Interact collaboratively with other departments, laboratory staff, and external partners
Clinical Test Implementation
With the Clinical Biobank Laboratory Director, participate in clinical assay validation planning, execution, and documentationOther
Maintain independent grant-funded research in addition to the above* Participate in CCPM leadership activities (e.g., developing partnerships, evaluating business plans, interviewing faculty candidates) as required

*Salary and Benefits:*The salary range (or hiring range) for Assistant Professor has been established at: $100,000 - $150,000.The salary range (or hiring range) for Associate Professor has been established at: $150,000 - $200,000.The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.The University of Colorado offers a full benefits package. Qualifications
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. *Minimum Qualifications for Assistant Professor:*
* MD or PhD
* Prior first-author peered-reviewed publications in the field of genetics or immunology
*Preferred Qualifications for Assistant Professor:*
* Authored publications with demonstrated use of current and emerging techniques, such as NGS-based and methylation-based assays for human disease analysis
* Research interests that utilize current and emerging technologies and synergize with current faculty interests in human disease (e.g., polygenic risk, immune system regulation, environmental effects)
* Use of genetics and genomics approaches to examine human disease, especially for the discovery of potential biomarkers, which could be used in the delivery of personalized medicine
*Minimum Additional Qualifications for Associate Professor:*
* MD or PhD
* Demonstrated RO1 level funding
* Experience directing a research service facility or institutional core facility
*Preferred Additional Qualifications for Associate Professor:*
* Familiarity with CLIA lab test development and testing. Experience partnering with CLIA labs, including CLIA Lab directors, to develop new testing capability.
* Track record of developing and leading scientific direction aligned with institutional needs
* Demonstrated ability to adapt and utilize new advances and cutting edge techniques
* Experience managing research/facility staff
* Demonstrated experience helping other researchers use/employ facility technology in their research
