This newly integrated division has been chartered in recognition of the shared values of the two teams, the common focus on disciplines that are not tied to specific organ systems or disease states, and the opportunity to create innovative clinical, research and educational programs. Our goal is to provide superlative care for the older and chronically ill patients served by our nationally-ranked tertiary care academic center. The ideal candidate will be an innovative leader and excellent collaborator with the skills to develop a highly synergetic academic program.

Position Highlights:
  • MCW is one of the nation's premier freestanding and private academic health sciences institution that is widely recognized for advancing academics, training, education, and research. The institution provides graduate and undergraduate medical education programs, basic and translational research initiatives, and overall clinical excellence.
  • MCW is a major national research center ranking in the top third of U.S. medical schools in NIH funding and is Wisconsin's largest private research institution.
  • The Division of Geriatric and Palliative Medicine was created on January 1, 2021, by combining the existing division of geriatrics with the section of palliative care, which was formerly within the division of hematology/oncology.
  • The Division Chief will be part of the Department of Medicine senior leadership team and will play a key role in the expansion of the Division and in developing new intra-departmental, inter-departmental, and inter-institutional clinical and research collaborations. This individual will lead a Division that includes 20 clinical faculty members, and 11 advanced practice providers. The clinical faculty are all fellowship trained and board-certified in Geriatrics and/or Palliative Medicine.

Candidates should have an established academic career in research (basic science, clinical, or translational), education, or quality and process improvement with national reputation, and be eligible for a faculty position at MCW at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. The ideal candidate will have:
  • Prior leadership experience, preferably in a nationally recognized Geriatric or Palliative Medicine program.
  • The ability to foster a highly collaborative academic environment.
  • Strong organizational skills, as well as emotional intelligence required to function effectively in a large, highly matrixed health systems.
  • The position requires that the candidate has earned an MD, DO or MD/PhD, be board-certified in either Geriatric Medicine, Palliative Medicine or both and must be eligible for an unrestricted Wisconsin medical license and valid D.E.A. number
