Read CU Anschutz Quick Facts here. *Nature of Work*The Anschutz Medical Campus of the University of Colorado (CU Anschutz) was designed to facilitate collaborative, interprofessional education. The Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education (CIPE) is an essential stakeholder in realizing this long-term vision of transforming the delivery of health care to meet the complex needs of society. A single longitudinal IPE curriculum has been integrated into preclinical and clinical training for all University of Colorado health profession students. The curriculum is designed to develop teamwork, collaborative interprofessional practice, ethics, and quality/safety competencies in our future health professionals. The development and execution of this curriculum is overseen by the CIPE Director and an Interprofessional Council, with faculty representatives from CU Anschutz Schools, Colleges, and Programs. The Assistant Director of CIPE for the SOM MD program is part of the IPE Council. The Council's responsibilities include communicating with the various Schools' Deans, finance staff, educational leadership, and curriculum oversight committees to facilitate implementation of the IPE curriculum.The Assistant Director of CIPE for the SOM MD program will work closely with the Director of CIPE and the Assistant Directors from other Schools, Colleges, and Programs at CU Anschutz to build, execute, evaluate, and refine the curriculum. Additionally, the Assistant Director of CIPE for the SOM MD program will work with the SOM MD program educational Assistant Deans and education committees to ensure the IPE curriculum is approved and optimally integrated into the 4-year medical student curriculum.*Supervision Received*The Assistant Director of CIPE for the SOM MD program will report to the Associate Dean for Interprofessional Education and the Senior Associate Dean for Education, with ultimate reporting to the Dean for the School of Medicine.*Supervision Exercised*None*Examples of Work Performed*
* Collaborate with other Assistant Directors and the CIPE Director in developing IPE curriculum
* Work with Course Directors of the SOM and the SOM Curriculum committees (Health & Society, Plains, Foothills, Alpine Ascent and Curriculum Steering Committee) to gain approval and to integrate the curriculum.
* Represent profession in bringing specific examples to curriculum development
* Engage respective faculty expertise and consultation for curriculum content as needed/appropriate
* Facilitate student IPE sessions
* Assist in recruitment and development of faculty facilitators and preceptors
* Cultivate opportunities within SOM clinical education settings for interprofessional interaction and learning
* Attend all Council meetings, curricular sessions, student feedback forums, orientations
* Oversee scheduling, enrollment and execution of all MD student IPE sessions (programspecific orientation, IPE introduction, IPE foundational courses, IPE simulation, IPE clinical experiences, IPE Assessments, etc.)
* Debrief with respective deans and deliver reports to SOM curriculum committees on a regular basis in addition to other faculty as requested
* Assist IPE Course directors related to MD student participation (communicate with students, follow up on absences, make up assignments/remediation, professionalism issues as necessary)
* Engage MD student cohorts regularly as they move through IPE curriculum
* Identify and work with MD student IPE representatives
* Participate in scholarly activities related to IPE (collaborate on journal articles, present at meetings, submit abstracts/posters, etc.)
* Provide orientation on the IPE curriculum to MD students each year (separate from overall orientation) to highlight the relevance of interprofessional activities to the practice of medicine.
